Marabú: nuisance turned asset.

Historically, Marabú has placed almost 20% of Cuban farms and landscapes during the island’s darkest times. The invasive weed is stubborn, almost impossible to tear down. In the spirit of perseverance, Cubans discovered that when burned, it produces one of the most artisanal charcoals in the world.

As the first legal import to the US in over 50 years, marabú serves as a symbol of new beginnings and growth. It represents the light at the end of the tunnel exemplifying that struggle can often lead to opportunity. When creating the brand Marabú, we were inspired by the naturally occurring patterns of the plant to create an emblematic touchpoint for the brand that pays homage to the core of the restaurant.
